Abundance of Grandparent-ness

Sloane has been lavished with attention and affection even more so than usual for the last several days. First, Babushka Janet and Dedushka Boris were here from Thursday afternoon until Sunday morning. Then, Grandma Jean and Grandpa Pete came to help mommy out on Monday so that I could work (we're done at the back up care day care center at my office and she doesn't start her full time day care until September 5th).

Though Sloane is miserably cutting three (yes, THREE!) teeth, she tried valiantly to be her usual cheerful, charming, sunny little self. Either way, she had such a great time with both sets of grandparents.

John and I are actually somewhat jealous since neither of us got to grow up seeing our grandparents much. His were in Ireland and England and mine were in the former Soviet Union. When we found out we were having a child, we swore that she would be lucky enough to have a LOT of contact with her grandparents.

Hooray for grandparents!

check out those chubby cheeks!!

You won't see many posts for about a week, we're off to New Orleans. A two and a half hour flight with a teething infant... Wish us luck!

One Year Ago Today...

Dear Lollipop,

One year ago today, I was in the ER getting an emergency appendectomy. It was also the day we found out we were going to have you. Your daddy and I were so excited and nervous and happy. Today you are nineteen weeks old and you daddy and I can't even really remember what out lives were like a year ago. Everything is just so much better now that you are with us. You've made us into a family and you are the light and the joy in our lives.

Love,
Your mommy

Teething

My poor little Lollipop is teething. She's slept about four hours in the last 12 and she's miserable. Everytime she falls asleep, she wakes up about 10 or 15 minutes later crying. As the head teacher at day care stated, "she's just not her usual happy little Sloanie Baloney!"

I wish I could just take her pain and do the teething for her -- poor baby!

***NEWSFLASH***

At 12:22 pm today, August 19, 2007 at the age of four months and five days, Sloane Cunniffe, who, at the time, was lying on her back on mommy and daddy's bed, turned over (which she has been doing for about two weeks), drew her knees under her tummy, raised herself on her elbows, and CRAWLED A FEW INCHES FORWARD. She then promptly face planted and got mad.

It is now officially time to childproof the house.

Chatty Girl

Now that Sloane has started talking, the floodgates are open. She chats with everyone and it's absolutely adorable.

Four Months Old

Dear Lollipop,

Today you are four months old. Your daddy and I couldn't be more proud of you. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of change - you're a completely different person than you were. And a little person is exactly what you are - you have more personality in your little body than most adults!

This month, you learned how to roll over, and you now have long and intense conversations (sometimes with Mommy or Daddy, sometimes with the "teachers" at day care, sometimes with the bears that hang over your bassinet, and sometimes just with yourself). You're starting to get your first teeth and you can hold your head up with no problems. You can also almost sit up with no help and you can pull yourself to a standing position (where you weeble wobble like a little drunken sailor!). In a word, you're amazing.

Your daddy and and I couldn't have asked for a smarter, more charming or more lovely little girl.

Love,
Your Mommy

Fall Preview

We've been having some odd weather (Thursday was 97 and yesterday was 57 and today is delightful, in the low 70's), so I pulled out some of the clothes we got for Fall.

Major Milestone

Today, we have a major new development.

She went from this:

to this:

...and she did it three times in a row as I sat there watching, my mouth agape. Once on her tummy, she proceeded to lift herself with her arms and tuck her knees under. People, we are may be a week or two away from crawling!

Baby Legs... You've got the cutest little Baby Legs

A few weeks ago someone turned us on to Baby Legs. Baby Legs, if you're too lazy to click through, are baby leg warmers. They make great sense for Sloane because she hates pants and really is only comfortable in onesies, which leave her little legs out in the cold.

So, I, of course, had to order three pairs.

And they came today. Behold, the cuteness:

additional pairs, and yes, I'm sure there will be pictures of her in them soon:

Lolli's Fancy Dress Weekend

This weekend Lollipop went to a party at Mommy's former professor's house. There were lots of babies her age there. She wore her "preppy" outfit:

Then, today, Mommy and Daddy decided that it was time to try on "The Dress" -- this dress was a gift from the Frenklachs and it's absolutely beautiful. We were worried that Sloane would outgrow it before she had a chance to wear it.

She preferred sitting in just the bloomers:

Finally, we settled on her blue "Princess" dress:

Day Care Cooties

Lollipop has her first cold. I'm home from work taking care of her. She's OK, just a stuffy nose and nothing else (no fever, etc), but it's breaking my heart. I spoke to Dr Coy, who said not worry and that I'm doing the right things to take care of her (saline nose spray and sucking out the gunk with a nasal aspirator), but I am a wreck. It doesn't help that I have had about two hours of sleep, I guess.

I knew that when I started her at day care, she would get colds and germs -- I just wish it hadn't been so soon. I wish it wasn't so hard. I wish I had more help. I wish a lot of things. Ugh, this just sucks.

She sounds like a little piglet - all snuffly. Even as miserable as she is, she still gives me the sweetest, most beautiful smiles. She's just so wonderful.
